Review For October Baby

"October Baby" looks and feels like a Lifetime movie waiting not to happen.
Mark Feeney-Boston Globe

The odds that this has happened in the real world approach those of being struck by lightning and eaten by a shark at the same time. With a winning lottery ticket tucked in your swimsuit.
Andrew O'Hehir-Salon.com

[An] earnest, faith-based drama, which lacks sufficient entertainment value to make its message go down more palatably.
Frank Scheck-Hollywood Reporter

Trafficking in 2-D morality and unlikely to be seen by the unconverted, "October Baby" would have been better off as a bumper sticker.
Joe Williams-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

"October Baby" doesn't even meet the standards of decent propaganda. It is, in fact, indecent propaganda.
Tom Long-Detroit News

"October Baby" may be well-intentioned, but it's as obvious and inert as a spoonful of mashed potatoes.
Kyle Smith-New York Post

tries to walk a line between abortion drama and adoption drama. All the wringing of hands in this film are results of cliches we've seen in television and movies for years.
Kevin Carr-7M Pictures

While it's better than most movies of its kind, it's still pretty weak entertainment, though choir members should feel free to sing its praises. Amen.
Philip Martin-Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Sometimes it is simply impossible for me to look at a movie with complete objectivity.
Linda Cook-Quad City Times (Davenport, IA)

A couple of scenes - especially one with a cop with a heart - are touching. Depending on your point of view, October Baby does manage to score more than a few points.
Gary Wolcott-Tri-City Herald

The filmmaking is lugubrious and heavy-handed, and the dramatic arc stagnant and airless.
Marjorie Baumgarten-Austin Chronicle

Faith-based drama about adoption, abortion, forgiveness.
Renee Schonfeld-Common Sense Media

A definitely pro-life story that will anger those who see no redeeming aspect for this position. For those who do agree with the premise this will be a cause for celebration.
Jackie K. Cooper-jackiekcooper.com

Heavy-handed proselytizing trumps genuine emotional impact.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

Timed to come out in the middle of a political dogfight over birth control, when candidates tell their supporters that they'll "get rid of Planned Parenthood," October Baby could have hot-button appeal for a certain audience.
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service

An inept message picture.
John Wirt-Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA)

An entertaining and relevant faith-based movie.
Diana Saenger-ReviewExpress.com

Avoids the outright preachiness of the Sherwood Productions films … certainly a good-looking film … too much tell and not enough show.
Steven D. Greydanus-Decent Films Guide

Instead of taking the WWJD pronouncements and beating us over the head with them, Guy goes for the truth and takes us there, teary eyed
Bill Gibron-Filmcritic.com

May be somewhat distasteful in subject and dubious in theme, but its presentation is as bright and shiny and polished as the fresh face of its pretty young star, Rachel Hendrix.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

Sloppily gums the subject of abortion, never discovering truth or feeling. It's all forgiveness and climactic smiles, missing a great opportunity to bring a direct point of view forward worth some honest post-screening conversation.
Brian Orndorf-BrianOrndorf.com

Standard movie-of-the-week fare dressed up in Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes.

Review For Red Dawn

It's Friday Night Lights territory, but without good writing or acting.
Mary F. Pols-TIME Magazine

Red Dawn suffers from a number of serious problems. The first, and most obvious, is that this is mini-series material compressed into a 95-minute movie.
James Berardinelli-ReelViews

Take that, screaming North Koreans with no agenda!
Lisa Schwarzbaum-Entertainment Weekly

Preposterously insincere ...
Liam Lacey-Globe and Mail

John Milius's 1984 cult classic about American teens battling a Soviet invasion has been reinvented as a Tea Party wet dream that offers a scathing (if completely illogical) indictment of the federal government.
Drew Hunt-Chicago Reader

Hobbled by a laughably bad script and a uniformly uncharismatic cast.
Steven Rea-Philadelphia Inquirer

As stupid as the original, yet modernized to include the Subway product placement that today's audiences crave.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

A remarkably half-baked remake of John Milius' 84 actioner (which wasn't a classic to begin with), Red Dawn is every bit as ludicrous as it sounds. And then some.
Stephen Carty-Flix Capacitor

Ridiculously violent for the certificate and wholly implausible in its set up, Red Dawn is the kind of gung-ho action thriller for people with sawdust for brains.
Graham Young-Birmingham Mail

In the wake of the Oscars, we have an early contender for worst film of the year.
Martin Roberts-Fan The Fire

It is a foolish, ill-considered undertaking, the unexpected topicality of which makes it all the sillier.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

This dismal remake of the overrated '80s cult flick is littered with the type of nausea-inducing patriotic dialogue lampooned by the likes of Team America: World Police.
Ben Rawson-Jones-Digital Spy

While it does have its inherent flaws, it proves to be much better than the original...
Felix Vasquez Jr.-Cinema Crazed

The action is generally well-staged, although watching teenagers building car bombs and cracking jokes about Call Of Duty feels like something to be endured rather than enjoyed.
Graeme Virtue-The List

Hollywood's cynicism knows no bounds. They're now remaking bad movies too.
Shaun Munro-What Culture

From its doomsday narrative and tired action set pieces, Red Dawn represents the lowest common denominator of dumb action movies.
Alex Zane-Sun Online

This has to be the year's most pointless remake: a boring and badly acted reboot of John Milius's gung-ho red-scare actioner from 1984.
Peter Bradshaw-Guardian [UK]

The enemy may have changed, but the same fatuous paranoia, flag-fluttering patriotism, and flimsy grip on international politics remains.
John Nugent-The Skinny

With any luck this will be the spanner that finally jams up the works of Hollywood's dangerously overcranked '80s remake Wurlitzer.
Adam Lee Davies-Little White Lies

You're constantly asking yourself 'Will it matter if I leave half-way through this film?"?!
Stefan Pape-HeyUGuys

The concept is, undeniably, ridiculous, and the plotholes plentiful if one cares to look hard enough. But Red Dawn zips along at such a pace it's hard to notice.
-Sky Movies

Long-delayed. Arguably not long enough.
Nick De Semlyen-Empire Magazine

Dan Bradley's Red Dawn does a fine job distancing itself from the original, but while doing so becomes a mostly mindless action picture with a rather shallow message.
Jeremy Lebens-We Got This Covered

The doltish, messy and frequently incoherent result bears all the hallmarks of a botched and compromised endeavour.
Neil Smith-Total Film

It's rubbish . . . and its sheer chutzpah makes it insulting as well!
James O'Ehley-Sci-Fi Movie Page

Unfortunately unexciting remake of the 1984 junk-culture cult classic about a bunch of American teens who fight back after America is invaded by Communists. Yes, Communists... This could have been fun.

Stream Ginger & Rosa Movie with Full HD Format

London, 1962. Two teenage girls - GINGER & ROSA - are inseparable. They skip school together, talk about love, religion and politics and dream of lives bigger than their mothers' domesticity. But the growing threat of nuclear war casts a shadow over their lives. Ginger (Elle Fanning) is drawn to poetry and protest, while Rosa (Alice Englert) shows Ginger how to smoke cigarettes, kiss boys and pray. Both rebel against their mothers: Rosa's single mum, Anoushka (Jodhi May), and Ginger's frustrated painter mother, Natalie (Christina Hendricks). Meanwhile, Ginger's pacifist father, Roland (Alessandro Nivola) seems a romantic, bohemian figure to the girls. He encourages Ginger's 'Ban-the-Bomb' activism, while Rosa starts to take a very different interest in him. As Ginger's parents fight and fall apart, Ginger finds emotional sanctuary with a gay couple, both named Mark (Timothy Spall and Oliver Platt), and their American friend, the poet Bella (Annette Bening). Finally, as the Cuban Missile Crisis escalates - and it seems the world itself may come to an end - the lifelong friendship of the two girls is shattered. Ginger clutches at one hope; if she can help save the world from extinction, perhaps she too will survive this moment of personal devastation. (c) A24

Review For Ginger & Rosa

Coming from anyone else, Ginger & Rosa would be a sensitive if predictable coming-of-age tale set in the mists of the distant past. But coming from writer-director Sally Potter, it's a major surprise.
Rick Groen-Globe and Mail

A near-flawless film, beautifully shot and cut, excitingly performed and deeply felt.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

Fanning is nearly perfect as Ginger navigates choppier waters than most teens have to. There is not a false note in her performance; no matter how melodramatic things become, everything about Ginger remains genuine.
Bill Goodykoontz-Arizona Republic

Elle Fanning is scary. Scarily good.
Steven Rea-Philadelphia Inquirer

In all respects, this is the completely captivating Fanning's picture.
Linda Barnard-Toronto Star

Potter has a rich compositional eye, but she wisely trims the fat from the dialogue, which dances around most of the melodrama until an explosive last act.
Joe Williams-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

As good as the movie is performance-wise, [director Sally] Potter allows the pacing to drag frequently, meaning viewers must be patient with Ginger & Rosa.
Forrest Hartman-Reno Gazette-Journal

The complexity of the characters and the simplicity of the story balance out to a rewarding coming-of-age drama for adults.
Eric D. Snider-About.com

With a rich sense of lived experience, Potter first portrays the blithe excitement and sense of joyful conspiracy shared by the two friends.
Nicolas Rapold-Film Comment Magazine

...probably Potter's most accessible movie to date, but the script is perhaps nothing special ...
Philip Martin-Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Nuclear anxiety becomes a distraction from teenage pressures and a projection of potentially explosive emotional distress in this beautifully acted character drama.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

The gifted Elle Fanning turns in an extraordinary performance, although Sally Potter's film is otherwise built on a flimsy, soap-opera story.
Mike Scott-Times-Picayune

Assured but bleak art-house girl's coming-of-age film that combines politics and personal matters.
Dennis Schwartz-Ozus' World Movie Reviews

Despite some narrative missteps, Ginger & Rosa should be seen simply for Fanning's exceptional performance, the sort of revelatory turn that makes us feel as if the next generation of film is in capable hands.
Matt Brunson-Creative Loafing

Fanning -- a startlingly alert and microemotive young actress -- breathes real feeling into the part, while the jazz soundtrack (John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Sidney Bechet) rouses this sensitive film from its drowsier inclinations.
Kimberley Jones-Austin Chronicle

Fanning heartbreakingly expresses hurt with seemingly with every fiber of her being. Her family implodes as much as the world seems about to during those 13 days in October.
Nora Lee Mandel-Film-Forward.com

Fanning brings such a groundedness and authenticity to the film's central role that you stick with her every step of the way.
Rob Thomas-Capital Times (Madison, WI)

"Ginger & Rosa" is another one of those films that feels like it's attempting to cover too much, and by doing so, ends up spreading itself rather thin across all of the areas it tries to encompass.
Jeff Beck-Examiner.com

Even seemingly ordinary scenes of girlfriends bonding - ironing hair, wearing jeans in the bathtub to shrink them, hitchhiking - are fraught with the sense of the external forces that will divide them.
Duane Dudek-Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The great gift of Ginger & Rosa is Potter's willingness to let her camera observe these gifted young actresses without judgment, and to create the illusion of ordinary life unfolding before your eyes.
Sarah Boslaugh-PopMatters

Without turning sentimental or heavy-handed, Potter strikes a nice balance between the more intimate character moments and the broader political context, and Fanning is terrific as the girl caught in the middle.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

Ginger's teen angst could have easily become mopey or self-righteous, but Fanning stays true to the heart of her character even as her world is crumbling around her.
Mathew DeKinder-Suburban Journals of St. Louis

Review For The Numbers Station

John Cusack replays his role as a lethal operative with occupational angst for a routine thriller with a female cryptographer at secret CIA site. Dire workplace issues ensue.
Bill Stamets-Chicago Sun-Times

A predictable hodgepodge of uninteresting psychological cat-and-mouse, dimly lighted action filmed by director Kasper Barfoed in standard-operating shaky-cam ...
Robert Abele-Los Angeles Times

With Cusack's help, Barfoed holds your interest without resorting to car chases, a rarity in a contemporary thriller.
Lou Lumenick-New York Post

This dreary spy drama is as flat and airless as the concrete bunker in which it unfolds.
Jeannette Catsoulis-New York Times

Akerman does work hard to keep up the energy level. Cusack, though, seems bored by the superficial proceedings, which don't even offer the distraction of a real romantic connection or a suspenseful confrontation.
Elizabeth Weitzman-New York Daily News

There are some decent shootouts, but the movie's strongest assets are the soulful performances ...
Chuck Wilson-Village Voice

The claustrophobic location gives the film a clammy suspense, though it's so dimly lit that it's sometimes hard to work out who is shooting at whom.
Jason Best-Movie Talk

A potentially intriguing idea is thrown out the window in this predictable low-budget thriller.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

There's an interesting, timely idea in this espionage thriller, as well as adept leading actors who are able to make the most of the script's dry wit.
Rich Cline-Contactmusic.com

The Numbers Station is a cheap and predictable thriller that works only because of its two leading cast members: John Cusack and Malin Akerman.
Jeremy Lebens-We Got This Covered

'The Numbers Station' is a competent film and it does manage to create some tension. But you're conscious of the fact that it all feels familiar and wondering why there isn't a little more to it.
James Plath-Movie Metropolis

John Cusack is back in a ferocious spy role updated to the information universe. Look out.
Ron Wilkinson-Monsters and Critics

John Cusack's usual clipped way of talking serves him well in the role of a disillusioned black ops agent. He's also convincing in the film's gunplay sequences and in his guarded interaction with others.
Betty Jo Tucker-ReelTalk Movie Reviews

Cusack's glum visage immediately lays a wet blanket over Danish director Kasper Barfoed's English-language debut and keeps it firmly in place until the final fade-out.
Ethan Alter-Television Without Pity

It's little wonder the movie spends so much time running in circles when we see where it ultimately goes.
Mark Dujsik-Mark Reviews Movies

The Numbers Station is a lean, tactile thriller that grabs you from the opening and keeps you aptly entertained.
Julian Roman-MovieWeb

Assembled from competent elements and featuring more dedicated performances than one might expect, The Numbers Station is still a tad too nondescript to leave much of an impact.
Simon Brookfield-We Got This Covered

If you're looking for a dynamic, politically-tinged thriller, you could do a lot better, but you could also do a lot worse.
Christopher Null-Film Racket

Claustrophobic and repetitive...a numbingly tedious would-be thriller.
Frank Swietek-One Guy's Opinion

Strictly for fans of the stars and perhaps those with an insatiable curiosity about career low points, the feature is certainly digestible, but rarely memorable.
Brian Orndorf-Blu-ray.com

The Numbers Station is watchable for the things it gets right, yet it is impossible not to think that a lot of pieces to this puzzle are missing.

Hurricane Sandy. Wildfires in the West. "Brown-Outs" in the East. Farmers losing crops to the worst drought since the Dust Bowl. Climate change is no longer a prediction for the future, but a startling reality of today. Yet, as evidence of our changing climate mounts and the scientific consensus proves human causation, there continues to be no political action to thwart the warming of our planet. "Greedy Lying Bastards" investigates the reason behind stalled efforts to tackle climate change despite consensus in the scientific community that it is not only a reality but also a growing problem placing us on the brink of disaster. The film details the people and organizations casting doubt on climate science and claims that greenhouse gases are not affected by human behavior. From the Koch Brothers to ExxonMobil, to prominent Senators and Justices, this provocative exposé unravels the layers of deceit threatening U.S. democracy. -- (C) Official Site

Review For Greedy Lying Bastards

As much as it hopes to incite outrage and to stir a complacent body politic into action, [it] never quite rises to the level of urgency the subject requires.
Bruce Demara-Toronto Star

A blistering attack on politicians, propagandists, dissemblers and other climate-change deniers.
John Hartl-Seattle Times

The film's effectiveness largely stems from the flat-out lameness of the opposition arguments, the lack of scientific credentials of those making them, and the self-interest of their corporate bosses.
Ronnie Scheib-Variety

Filmmaker Craig Scott Rosebraugh seems to take a kind of perverse glee in hauling out the worst offenders among what he calls the climate change deniers for public shaming.
Michael O'Sullivan-Washington Post

What's next, "Big Oil Is Full of Meanies"?
Kyle Smith-New York Post

The film makes its case well. The problem, though, is it seems a bit late.
Tom Long-Detroit News

If ever a documentary needed Michael Moore's ability to debunk the rich and powerful in his inimitable sardonic style, it's here.
Jeremy Aspinall-Radio Times

It is a splenetic, satiric attack on the formidable PR forces, spurious thinktanks and talking heads being mobilised in the US to attack the idea of man-made global warming.
Peter Bradshaw-Guardian [UK]

If you like being hectored, preached at and told you're wrong, then this is the film for you.
Adam Woodward-Little White Lies

Craig Scott Rosebraugh delivers an informative if somewhat self-satisfied expose of climate change deniers, explaining exactly where they get their funding from and how they are determined to dupe the public despite the devastating consequences.
Katherine McLaughlin-ViewLondon

This film is an awful warning and awful fun at one and the same time.
Nigel Andrews-Financial Times

A fiery doc that undermines itself with pub-bore polemics.
Patrick Peters-Empire Magazine

... thorough in its revelations, and thoroughly depressing on how the world has been thwarted in this important attempt to heal itself. The film is intent on putting on notice all the "guilty" parties that deny the dangers of climate change...
Elias Savada-Film Threat

...tragically falters whenever director Craig Scott Rosebraugh inserts himself into the proceedings and allows his personal ax grinding to overtake journalistic impartiality.
Jamie S. Rich-Oregonian

The title says it all.
T'Cha Dunlevy-Montreal Gazette

The well-intentioned film includes plenty of statistics and makes its stance clear, but the familiarity of the subject matter decreases its impact.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

An entertaining expose of the industry-paid deniers and how they continue to muddle the climate-change "debate."
Sean Means-Salt Lake Tribune

Not the most eloquent "outrage doc."
Kelly Vance-East Bay Express

Provocative, vital and enraging. It goes further than An Inconvenient Truth.

Andrew O'Hehir-Salon.com

Such a feature-length bludgeoning, even in the service of basic social and scientific literacy, is truly discomfiting.
